Understanding Animation by Paul Wells Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Understanding Animation by Paul Wells - Essay Example In the very early stages of animation, people started thinking that a time will come when people will stare at the paintings and will ask themselves why the images or objects are so stiff by nature. Stuart Blackton has played a considerable role in distinguishing the concept of animated films as some sort of aesthetic vehicle outside the framework of live action films. The simple narrative film, The Haunted Hotel (1907), was a perfect example of Blacktonââ¬â¢s filmmaking concept in which he made use of impressive supernatural sequences in order to convince filmmakers that animated pictures have different approach towards filmmaking and are unlimited in potential. The un-natural actions of The Haunted Hotel and all such animated films produced changes in the overall cultural climate. The Gothic and Romantic fiction movies started to incorporate the use of animations along with technological possibilities of new age of modernization. The concept of including comic strip into animate d films emerged somewhere between 1913 and 1917. In this period of time, filmmakers produced many films, such as, The Newlyweds, Dreamy Dud, and Krazy Kat, in which they integrated the use of comic strips with latest technology and new film concepts. The integration of comic strips determined that animation should relate itself with experimental values. The concept of comic strips into animated films emerged in the U.S. marketplace just when filmmakers, such as, Walter Ruttmann and Oskar Fischinger, brought the concept of experimental abstract animation to the European film industry. The concept of animation in filmmaking reached the heights of maturity in the late 20th century and until now; many filmmakers are consistently making use of animated films to attract a large number of people towards the cinema. The creation of Disney dominated the medium places in the form of realism and overshadowed the concepts of innovation and style-oriented animations. Presently, the principles of movements are over-enunciated in the dictionary of animation. The squash and stretch mode of Disney animation over compress character movements in order to provide an over-determined comic style to animation. The subjectivity of animation through the intrinsic capability of the medium for restricting realism made reality in animation difficult to execute. This chapter also provides us with the information that true animation is not the one, which is not non-linear or non-objective by nature. It means that to create a perfect animated film; there must be a contrast of objective and subjective elements present in the film. A perfect animated film is one, which concentrates on the use of unique vocabulary by distinguishing the film from all other filmmaking approaches. Summary ââ¬â Chapter # 2 There are different styles and approaches towards animation. One can possibly argue that the hyperactive realistic animated movies and the Disney animation are the most prominent and disting uishing approaches towards animation. Many filmmakers from the early era of filmmaking and present era have made use of different animation approaches to create stylish and realistic animation movies. Those approaches provide filmmakers with unique set of rules and guidelines towards animated filmmaking. No approach is similar to any other approach. There are some distinguishing features in each of the approaches, which highlight different

Expensive nature Essay Example for Free
Expensive nature Essay We can see that the maiden was not happy with the way in which her life changed when she uses the rhetorical question why did a great Lord find me out, To fill my heart with care? She is basically asking, Why did her life have to change when she was so happy and why did the lord have to fill her heart with care and worry whereas before she was blissful unaware of any problems surrounding her. She feels shame in the fact that she enjoyed her relationship with the lord woes me for joy thereof as in her time what she was engaging in would have been considered disgraceful. She feels used by the Lord and describes how if her hadnt come into her life she wouldnt be an unclean thing or if they had got married she could have been a dove and enjoyed a good life with him. The poet then starts to write of the cottage maidens feelings towards her cousin Kate. She describes the way the Lord grew tired of the cottage maiden and then decided to start a relationship with Kate and we get the inclination that the cottage maiden has feeling of jealousy but also anger towards this. She feels the Lord wanted Kate because she was good and pure she was a virgin and the fact that she wouldnt give in to the Lord made him want her even more. This makes the cottage maiden angry with herself for giving in to him and she goes on to describe how he bound Kate with his Ring and the neighbours just called her an outcast thing. This implies that she believes if she hadnt had sex with The lord maybe he would have married her instead of Kate. Now the cottage maiden is stuck in her old life, and is unhappy because now she has had a taste for higher things she is not contented with what she had before anymore. She sits and howls in dust while Kate is now enjoying what the cottage maiden used to have but to a higher extent You sit in gold and sing. In the next few stanzas the cottage becomes bitter towards her cousin and implies that She really loved him whereas her cousin Kate was bought by the lord, she says that if their situations had been switched she wouldnt have taken the Lord if he had been with her. The Maiden seems angrier with her cousin than she is with Lord but she feels betrayed by both of them. Although in the last stanza the maidens tone changes she begins to gloat. She realises that she has the one thing that her cousin Kate would like but cannot have, a baby. She knows her cousin worries about this but seems unsympathetic as she goes on to say how she will not being giving her son up and she is protective over him cling closer, closer yet. She knows that the lord would give lands for one but she seems to be saying tough to both of them and maybe thinks Kate is getting the punishment she deserves from god, seens as in those days a baby was seen as a gift from god. The cottage maiden loves her son more than anything else in her life and shows this by saying my shame, my pride she thinks she should be ashamed of him but she is not she still loves him dearly. In the seduction and Cousin Kate the male characters are portrayed very negatively.Ã Eileen McAuley describes a youth that met the young girl at the party. After the party he takes her to the docks in Liverpool, which have relevance to the way in which he perceives the young girl. The docks are typically associated with prostitutes, which suggests he doesnt think anymore of her than a cheap prostitute. This also comes to our attention when in the last line of the second stanza he muttered little slag. This lets us no without a doubt that he had no respect for her or had no intention of becoming involved in any kind of relationship with her past that night. He comes across as quite cheap from the way the author writes, leather jacket creaking madly Expensive leather is extremely quiet and soft, the fact that his jacket was creaking implies it was not of an expensive nature. He also spits in the river, trying to impress her but really just showing his vulgarity. He had obviously planned the night, which makes him seem quite seedy and perverted, he seems to be in control of the night, he sat down, he led her, and hed bought her more drinks. He seems to be the source of intoxicated state as he had been buying her drinks all night and he handed her the vodka at the river. The fact that he thinks he need to get her drunk before she will have any contact with him shows that maybe he doesnt really think that highly of himself anyway. The conversation between the couple is very one dimensional and shows the boy to be quite selfish as he only talks about subjects which concern or interest him and shows no interest in any subject relating or relevant to the young girl. The way the author describes how he spends his free time also gives us an insight into what type of boy the young girl is involved with. He says he spends most afternoons down by the river whilst he should be in school so the fact that hes a truant makes him seem less academic and clever and more juvenile. He also explains how he goes there alone so we get the inclination that maybe he doesnt have that many friends either or he could be antisocial. He says blatantly in from of the girl that he goes there with his dads magazines making him sound seedy and sweet paint thinner indicating that he abuses solvents. All in all he doesnt make himself sound to attractive to this young intelligent girl who is looking for the perfect partner to lose her virginit y to. He is very unromantic when it comes to seducing the young girl; in fact he is anything but seducing her hes just trying to grope her. The author writes about how he contrived to kiss her which again goes back to the way he had planned the night in advance but also shows us that he didnt have any interest in the girl he just wanted to use her for sex.Ã In Cousin Kate we do not find out about the Lord in such great detail but we get the inclination that he used his position and his money to trick the cottage maiden into a relationship when the author uses the phrase he lured me to his palace home. The word lured implying seediness and trickery. The author creates the Lord as a very fickle man who treats his women like clothing, wore them as eye candy until they were dirty and boring only to throw them away and change them for a better model. He became bored with the cottage maiden after she had had sex with him and decided to pursue her cousin Kate. He comes across as quite persistent to get his own way as he does not give up on Kate and he ends up marrying her, so he can finally get his own way which shows that he will go to extremes to get what he wants. He obviously feels that love is based upon possessions and not emotions as he tries to buy Kate with his lands and money not with his personality, this make him seem shallow. The setting for both poems is important, the seduction being set in the city and cousin Kate in the country has great relevance.Ã I touched upon the setting for the seduction earlier; the docks being associated with prostitution implies that the boy felt the girl was of that standard. Also the setting is not glamorous it is quite seedy and putrid. The way the author says towards the frightening scum on the water reflects on the dangerous situation that she has got herself involved in but also the word scum actually mirrors the boys character. The author also goes on to describe the Mersey, green as a septic wound and I think this simile on the setting also reflects in the situation as a whole, infectious and unrewarding. Also the setting for the second part of the poem is a bedroom, isolated from the rest of the world, showing the young girls emotions, her longing to be cut of from the rest of her surroundings. The setting is a contrast from the first part of the poem, whereas the city is bustling, busy and noisy, her room is secluded, quiet and lonely. The change in scenery reflects the change of tone and emotion. The choice of setting for Cousin Kate is quite straightforward; the countryside is perceived as a quite place full of nature and animals, unlike a city. A city is a more typical setting for a situation like the cottage maidens so the fact that it takes place in the countryside is even more ludicrous. Both authors use the settings to create effect but the effect they have on us is the complete opposite of each other. In the seduction the reader is supposed to relate the situation to the setting but in Cousin Kate it is used for shock effect and to make the situation seem more extreme as the countryside isnt the typical place youd expect her relations to be taking place.

Learn About PC Virus :: Computer Virus
Learn About PC Virus A computer virus is a potentially damaging computer program designed to affect, or infect, your computer negatively by altering the way it works without your knowledge or permission. More specifically, a computer virus is a segment of program code that implants itself in a computer file and spreads systematically from one file to another. Viruses can spread to your computer if an infected floppy disk is in the disk drive when you boot the computer, if you run an infected program, or if you open an infected data file in a program. Computer viruses, however, do not generate by chance. Creators, or programmers, of computer virus programs write them for a specific purpose ââ¬â usually to cause a certain type of symptom or damage. Some viruses are harmless pranks that simply freeze a computer temporarily or display sounds or messages. When the Music Bug virus is triggered, for example, it instructs the computer to play a few chords of music. Other viruses, by contrast, are designed to destroy or corrupt data stored on the infected computer. Thus, the symptom or damage caused by a virus can be harmless or cause significant damage, as planned by its creator. Viruses have become a serious problem in recent years. Currently, more than 45,000 known virus programs exist and an estimated six new virus programs are discovered each day. The increased use of networks, the Internet, and e-mail has accelerated the spread of computer viruses, by allowing individuals to share files ââ¬â and any related viruses ââ¬â more easily than ever. Types of Viruses Although numerous variations are known, four main types of viruses exist: boot sector viruses, file viruses, Trojan horse viruses, and macro viruses. A boot sector virus replaces the boot program used to start a computer with a modified, infected version of the boot program. When the computer runs the infected boot program, the computer loads the virus into its memory. Once the virus is in memory, it spreads to any disk inserted into the computer. A file virus attaches itself to or replaces program files; the virus then spreads to any file that accesses the infected program. A Trojan horse virus (named after the Greek myth) is a virus that hides within or is designed to look like a legitimate program. A macro virus uses the macro language of an application, such as word processing or spreadsheet, to hide virus code. When you open a document that contains an infected macro, the macro virus loads into memory. Certain actions, such as opening the document, activate the virus.

Why I Hate Hr
Why I Hate HR MGT/431 Why I Hate Hr The issue we are addressing in this assignment below is the problems of Human Resource Management; the author has written the topic ââ¬Å"Why we hate HR? â⬠. He has listed several issues faced such by the human resource management ââ¬â managers and there is quite a number of times having to distance themselves from the employees. He has started his case by talking about ââ¬Å"why human-resource does not do such a good jobâ⬠, and how can we fix it? hen he continues with the Sarcastic criticism of the general outlook of people towards HR , and considers that the HR people just find a great excuse of partying, calling it a HR leadership training program at the most expensive resorts. Considered by many as a waste of time and money. Author Keith Hammonds, Deputy Editor of Fast Company magazine lit up HR managers with his long August 2005 article entitled, ââ¬Å"Why We Hate HR. â⬠He made a number of harsh accusations about HR peop le. As we have seen the article is provocative. I know many people think such accusations are true for some in the line of work, though as generalizations all are wrong. Should HR say nothing, or what exactly should they say instead? In fact Human Resource is making vast leaps forward as we speak. Instead of bashing pet peeves in the profession we should look into what is working. Punching at a problem rarely encourages improvement, though it gets lots of notice and expected email, both from irritated HR people and those who love to instigate them. Itââ¬â¢s time for an equally pointed response. The author drags out most of the cliche, tired-but-not-yet-dead accusations. He ploughs out four in particular: that HR people are ââ¬Å"not the sharpest tacks,â⬠that they are paper and policy mongers, that they are by treating everyone exactly equally ââ¬Å"the mistaken beliefâ⬠this is fairness, and that the HR managers cannot see the bigger picture. The last is truly the key issue. The others, nonetheless, grow from this. If they miss the larger picture of creating value, they are missing it not only for the companies they work for, but the individuals and their needs as well. It is irrelevant to compare Human Resource to finance and other support operations. As all HR managers make pretty much the same accusations about all of these sectors. They joke about ââ¬Å"blinker eyedâ⬠accountants who only focus on lockstep processes and can't see the value of investing in pioneering ventures. HR managers at the same time support divisionââ¬â¢s needle line executives for their tendency to brush off ââ¬Å"technicalâ⬠issues in their hurry to take shortcuts just to make their bonus numbers. Such digs may be humorous, but none of this is constructive. ââ¬Å"Not the Sharpest Tacksâ⬠Looking at HR in perspective against Keithââ¬â¢s claim that HR Managers are generally dull, side-lined executives who couldnââ¬â¢t make it in other fields. Keith alludes to, but doesnââ¬â¢t spell out that HR is relatively new as a profession without the 400 year history that, for example, accounting has. It was born out of payroll administration to take on a chaos of work that line executives didnââ¬â¢t want to make time for such as hiring, familiarizing with company atmosphere, training, terminations, HR legal issues, human rights, health and safety rules and literally dozens of other tasks loosely related to people. It can be a punching bag for all departments and Head Honchos and add to that few functions have to deal with the complexity of issues that HR does. Clear cut accounting rules have become increasingly complex lately, but nothing to compare with the massive grey areas and differing legislation that HR executives routinely have to deal with ââ¬â many of which offer few absolute, clear-cut answers to tell your CEO or staff. Do really dumb people get stuck in HR? As per Keithââ¬â¢s views many line managers, still sideline weaker managers into the function and assign them mainly paper-pushing tasks, ââ¬Å"party-planningâ⬠and police duty as he notes. Nevertheless those who may look like losers frequently aren't. HR is often asked to impose rules, sometimes some that donââ¬â¢t fit with most employees, mostly not thought up by HR at all, but by irritated fuming CEOââ¬â¢s demanding spontaneous responses to routine organizational problems better handled in other ways. In one situation HR was routinely held responsible for a poorly designed bonus plan that time after time paid out top awards, including even south sea cruises, to some of the worst performing area head, which were only good at sweet talking. Dumping weak executives into HR shows as much or more a failing of line managers than of the individuals who end up in the HR function. This will be fatal going forward and won't be allowed to continue. A bigger issue is whether senior teams can learn to effectively absorb the input of their HR members as valuable. Agreed not everyone is great, but HR certainly isnââ¬â¢t the only area with some weaker players by any means as every function holds its share of those who couldn't make it elsewhere, but have hung on where they started, barely coping with the basics. What Keith doesn't seem to be aware of is that most executives never reach the top jobs in any case, nor could they. Organizations thrive because they're tough on people in every function and ideally only the best rise to the top. Conclusion Keith Hammonds, author of, ââ¬Å"Why We Hate Hrâ⬠, clearing has no good feeling towards Human Resource Managers. Team B strongly believes if we did not have HRMââ¬â¢s in organizations today, there would clearly be a lot of confusion and no development training in todayââ¬â¢s workforce. Keith spends a lot of time talking down on human resources but does not clearly provide any facts about his opinions. Team B is disagrees with the author on this article as it has been stated above; these are truly just and only opinions from an individual who clearly hates human resources. References Hammonds, K. Arts: Methods of Presenting the Art Essay
METHODS OF PRESENTING THE ART 1. REALISM ââ¬â the attempt to portray the subject as it is. Realists try to be as objective as possible. 2. ABSTRACTION ââ¬â the attempt of the artist to show only his idea or his feeling; not as objective as the realist. THE DIFFERENT ABSTRACT PRESENTATION * DISTORTION ââ¬â clearly manifested when the subject is in distorted condition or twisted out. * ELONGATION ââ¬â is when the art subject is lengthen, protracted or extended. * MANGLING ââ¬â is rarely used by artist today. Here, the subject is either cut, or mutilated. * CUBISM ââ¬â stresses abstract form through the use of a cone, cylinder or sphere at the expense of other pictorial elements. The use of geometrical shapes is common in Pablo Picazzo & Paul Cezanne art works. 3. SYMBOLISM ââ¬â the use of a visible sign of an idea to convey to the viewers, readers or audiences the message of his work. 4. FAUVISM ââ¬â the artist use of bright colors which shows pictures of comfort, joy and pleasure. This is the method used by Henry Matisse, Raoul Drify and George Ronault. 5. DADAISM ââ¬â is a protest movement in the art that is playful and experimental. ââ¬Å"Dadaâ⬠means a ââ¬Å"hobby horseâ⬠. Dadaism is most often nonsensical. Marcel Duchamp is the famous painter using this method. 6. FUTURISM ââ¬â developed in Italy about the same time as cubism appeared in France. Futurist painters wanted their works to capture the mechanical energy of modern life. 7. SURREALISM ââ¬â this method mirrors the evils of the present society. Surrealism means super realism, influenced by Freudian psychology which emphasizes the activities of the subconscious state of the mind. 8. EXPRESSIONISM ââ¬â are art works describing pathos, morbidity chaos or even defeat. Introduced in Germany from 1900 ââ¬â 1910.

The Broken Spears
The Broken Spears The city of Aztec emerged in history as a result of a long cultural transformation in the pre Christian era. As per the historians the land of Mexico underwent a great cultural transition around second millennium B.C. The foundations of the sacred cities of Mayas-Tikal, Copan etc. were laid at the beginning of the Christian era.Advertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Broken Spears specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More The pyramids, palaces, various inscriptions and representations of gods became the source to Aztec art and culture in the Conquest period. The downfall of Roman Empire and the emergence of Spaniards as major power in the New World highlight of this period (Portillo, 1992). The Origin of Toltec Empire The eighth and ninth centuries witnessed the decline of Teotihuacan and Mayan cultures. However, a new state originated in central Mexico from the blend of these cultures, and it was called Toltec Empire. The main populace of this empire was people who migrated from the north. They brought with them their language of Nahuatl which in due course became the language of the Aztecs. Quetzalcoatl was their Teotihuacan cultural hero during this period. However, Quetzalcoatl left them promising his return to the land sometime in the future (Portillo, 1992). The Aztecs or Mexicas entered the Valley of Mexico from the north while new city states sprouted on its shores. In 1325 they founded their city on an isolated island and within a span of ten decades they were successful in amalgamating their old cultural traditions. They were independent, and finding themselves stable, started conquering the nearby states. This was followed by their expedition to the far and establishing their rule up to Pacific and Guatemala regions. Gradually, they became the most powerful and richer than any other city states (Portillo, 1992). The Aztec Empire, a panoramic view Don Hernando Cortes, the Spaniard and his band of six hundred soldiers landed on the coast of Aztec Empire at Veracruz on 22nd April 1519. It changed the destiny of the Empire. The city of Aztec surrendered to this unscrupulous man within 2 years. There were frequent communion of teachers and students at the pre-Hispanic education centers. The busy streets and the merchant navigation were all impressive and the soldiers thronged to the city with their military exercises. Governors and Ambassadors from distant regions visited the city either to offer tributes or to seek Aztec alliance. Gold, silver, slaves and other merchandise filled the streets, causeways and shores. People worked very hard and were devoted to their gods. The celebrations and cultural activities added to the beauty of the city (Portillo, 1992). Contributions of Tlacaelel and Itzcoatl to making of Aztec Empire It was Itzcoatl who laid the firm foundation of the empire with his immaculate vision. He ruled the empire between 1428 and 1440. The wealth and the military strength of Tenochtitlan were the result of his accomplishments. His diplomatic alliance or confederation known as ââ¬Ëtriple allianceââ¬â¢ saw the union of Nezahualcoyotl of Tezcoco (to defeat Azcapotzalco), and befriending Tenochtitlan, Tezcoco and the city of Tlacopan. The royal counselor of the King was Tlacaelel who was a shrewd statesman. He introduced significant reforms in the overall political, religious, social and economic fields of the country which brought in phenomenal improvements in the society as a whole. The historians have remarked that if the Spaniards were to come to Aztec during his period, the fate of the Empire would have been different. Tlacaelel was such a visionary ââ¬ËKing Makerââ¬â¢ who never longed for the throne, even though it was extended to him several times. It was he who persuaded the Aztec Kings to extend the realms of Huitzilopochtli stressing upon the necessity to capture men belonging to other clans for the sacrifice. He also reformed judiciary, military, trade and commerce which were the foundation stones of Aztec mighty empire. The triple alliance conceived by him propelled the neighboring states to concede, and forced them to sign treaties. The farsighted action brought more revenue to the state in the form of tributes. During his period the Aztec boundaries were extended to the south (Portillo, 1992). Social life of the Aztecs By 1510 the empire was responsible for over several million people. The empire was extended from Pacific to Gulf coast and up to Guatemala. The speedy growth of the empire brought about corresponding changes in the outlook and way of living of the people. Their socio-political structure was so rigid that they enthralled the Spaniards with its complex nature. The social set up of the citizens reflected the social stratification which was based on the nature and class of their work. Education wasAdvertising We will write a custom essay sample on The Broken Spears specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More also given great importance. The people practiced worshipping only one god namely, the Lord of Duality, though they considered it in the form of individual deities (Portillo, 1992). Warfare of Aztecs War became the cultural institution of the Aztec life as it was their means to please the god. The warriors knew that their prime duty was to find the captives for sacrifice. This was the main reason for the expansion of Aztec Empire. However, it frightened the Spaniards too. They could have destroyed the conquering Spaniards, but the destiny wanted it in another way, for superstition, black magic and fear overpowered th e last emperor Motecuhzomaââ¬â¢s will, and this mistake caused the ruin of a great Empire. The dissident tribal chiefs and the prevailing enmity with the neighboring states also aggravated the situation (Portillo, 1992). The Downfall of Aztec Empire On going through the various documents available today it could be seen that the downfall of the Aztec Empire was not because of the bravery of the Spaniards but because of the unwanted fear of Motecuhzoma. Possessed with the evils of black magic and belief in omens, he paved the way for the Spaniards to conquer him and left his people at their mercy. By misunderstanding the signs and losing courage to fight, the King withdrew from imparting his duty of defending his empire. The fear of losing his throne forced him to sent messengers to the voyaging Don Hernando Cortes with gifts, and begging him. With that he warranted disgrace and sabotaged the will of the people. Instead of confronting the situation with valor and self esteem he op ted for the humiliation of great men and their traditions to utter shame and peril (Portillo, 1992). Conclusion In short, the whole episode of conquest and the ââ¬ËNight of Sorrowââ¬â¢ are the result of the Indians alone. The Spaniards could not be blamed on this. When the messengers gave their reports on their encounter with the Spaniards, King Motecuhzoma was terrified and he was drenched in despair to invite his doom. God will stand only with the valiant and not with the weak. The downfall of Aztec Empire illustrates this. It is relevant to quote the following lines of a Nahua poet named Natalio Hernindez Xocoyotzin: (Portillo, 1992). ââ¬Å"Sometimes I feel that we, the Indians, are waiting for the arrival of a ManAdvertising Looking for essay on ancient history? 1920s Fashion From Flappers to the Little Black Dress
1920s Fashion From Flappers to the Little Black Dress SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The roaring twenties were an iconic era, characterized by a post-war economic boom, the rise of the newly wealthy, and monumental cultural shifts that would continue to define art, politics, and fashion for decades to come. 1920s fashion was all about creating a Look- an overall aesthetic that used modern trends to demonstrate the wearerââ¬â¢s creativity. For the first time, fashion was about self-expression, and you could be anyone you wanted if you had the right clothes. After World War I ended in 1918, the world pieced itself back together, and people tried to make sense of the events that occurred. As the world changed and healed, people pushed rapidly toward modernization in womenââ¬â¢s rights, technology, and culture. The roaring twenties was a decade in which everything changed, and thankfully, gave us one of the most fun and influential decades of fashion. 1920s Fashion Trends for Women Fashion for women underwent major changes in the 1920s, as styles moved away from strict Victorian dress codes. Hemlines went up, and necklines went down. Women wore loose-fitting clothes, which allowed them the opportunity to show more skin, and move more freely. Corsets were discarded for loose-fitting chemises and camisoles, and with their new freedom of movement women dove headfirst into experiencing and defining their liberation in the modern era. The Flapper The Flapper is the look most commonly associated with the roaring twenties. Flappers wore short, tube-like dresses that could be plain or adorned with beads, fringe, or geometric shapes in an art-deco style. Flappers also accessorized with long necklaces, usually pearls, as well as scarves and headscarves, and galoshes. The Flapper look was intended to be an over-exaggerated, attention-grabbing look. Young women were experiencing more freedom in the post-war 1920s, and sought to shake the rigid expectations for women in past decades. The Garconne Similar to the Flapper, women who sported a Garconne look did so to rebel against feminine norms. This look was intended to be masculine; the essential pieces were blouses, oversized jackets, and straight-legged trousers. The look allowed for freedom of movement, and was a way to signal that a woman was independent and professional. Coco Chanel, who emerged as a leading fashion designer during the decade, was a proponent of the Garconne look, often wearing suits she designed. Speaking of Coco Chanel- this fashion icon also designed The Little Black Dress in the 1920s, a staple wardrobe piece that was intended to be stylish and multi-functional staple wardrobe piece for women of all shapes. The concept of a multi-functional dress was so popular that women all over the world adopted it, and it remains a fashion must-have. 1920s Hairstyles, Accessories, and More! 1920s hairstyles for women moved away from complicated long curls and pinned updos. Women chose short, sleek bobs of varying styles, including the Shingle, a shorter, waved bob. Fur coats or fur trim coats were also popular at this time, particularly raccoon, and were a major marker of status. Low heels in Mary Jane or T-strap styles were worn with most outfits. In addition to the two main day looks, other aspects of womenââ¬â¢s clothing evolved during this time, since more women had the means to take vacations and participate in leisure activities. Womenââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"bathing costumesâ⬠became shorter and tighter, allowing for more range of moment in the water, and more skin to be shown while sunbathing- a scandalous development! Sportswear also became more functional; loose trousers and blouses became acceptable for women, as women began to participate in leisure sports alongside men. 1920s Menââ¬â¢s Fashion While menââ¬â¢s fashion didnââ¬â¢t change as drastically as womenââ¬â¢s fashions, menââ¬â¢s fashion did push toward modernity and functionality. New menââ¬â¢s styles were modeled after movie stars and famous prohibition gangsters. Men continued to wear suits for everyday wear, but new pieces became socially acceptable in casual settings as well. Sweaters were popularized as more young people went to college, and men wore them with trousers or knickerbockers. The suits themselves became less formal; pants were fitted more loosely, and a vest was optional. The 1920s also brought the creation of a Zoot Suit, which were popular among African-American men. These suits had wide legs and shoulders, and were styled with colorful ties and pocket squares. Though we tend to think of a tuxedo now as the highest level of formal wear, tuxedos were only adopted in the 1920s. Previously, menââ¬â¢s formal wear was called ââ¬Å"white-tieâ⬠and consisted of a white tie and vest, along with a coat and tails. The more comfortable tuxedo replaced the coat-and-tails, and is now what we call black-tie formal. Tuxedos enabled men to dance more freely, as dancing itself became more varied and active. A young man wearing a flat cap 1920s Hairstyles and Accessories for Men You canââ¬â¢t think of 1920s fashion without thinking about hats. From flat-caps to top hats, menââ¬â¢s hats were essential. It was not generally acceptable to leave the house without one. Flat-caps were the most casual, and were often worn by boys and young men. Fedoras were also worn casually, usually with a suit. Top hats were considered formal hat-wear. Menââ¬â¢s hair was short and slicked back, emulating the gangsters and movie stars who were the celebrities of the day. Men also rocked ties and bow ties, and matched them with pocket squares, which were used as a way to add color and dimension to their outfits. Men in the 1920s also favored black wing tip, patent leather, or two-tone shoes. Like for women, fur coats were a signifier of status, with raccoon coats being sought after for their pattern and color. Understanding Cultural Influences in Roaring 20s Fashion First-wave feminism in the United States gained women the right to vote in 1919. With the vote came a change in womenââ¬â¢s status, which was reflected quite literally in their clothing. As we mentioned above, corsets were all but abandoned, and clothing became less about following strict social codes to signify virtue or marital status, and more about self-expression. Womenââ¬â¢s fashion was one of the primary functions of the culture revolution that came to define their liberation and the roaring twenties. The growing economy in conjunction with technological advancement and an increase in overall wealth created a growing culture of consumerism, where people were eager to display their wealth and status; part of this display was the cultivation of a look, and an understanding of trends. Accessing fashion was, for the first time, available to people of all classes, and there was a power in self-expression for the newly rich and the rising middle class. Additionally, many young men and women left their hometowns for the city with promises of jobs and adventure. A youth culture defined by unlimited promise quickly arose. Media Influences The film industry was just beginning en masse in the 1920s, and people of all socioeconomic status could go to see motion pictures. Movie stars like Clara Bow, Greta Garbo, Rudolph Valentino, and Buster Keaton heavily influenced the styles of the day. Hollywood as considered the height of glamour, and movie stars were a new concept that people were eager to emulate in the hedonistic twenties These changes accompanied by newspaper syndicates allowed people to all access the same information- for the first time, people in cities and rural towns across the country were reading and seeing the same content as one another. Newspapers ran the same stories, people saw the same movies, and were able to participate in national culture. This especially was important as the media glamorized prohibition gangstersââ¬â¢ rise to prominence. Their lifestyle and culture began to influence fashion and a culture of excess. Modern art also influenced 1920s fashion. Like everyone else, artists were trying to make sense of the devastating war in their own ways, which led to movements like Dada, surrealism and expressionism. Art deco was a major influence on fashion, as it focused on shapes and dimension and was about creating a visual experience. The influences are evident in the Flapper and Garconne looks for women, with its emphasis on lines and shapes. An example of art-deco Legacy and 1920s Fashion Trends Today In addition to the everlasting addition of the Little Black Dress, 1920s fashion influences continue to define the fashion industry as we know it. Fashion of the 1920s was closely tied to womenââ¬â¢s liberation, and was one of the first of many movements to make womenââ¬â¢s fashion more comfortable, functional, and suited to their needs and creativity instead of their physical attractiveness. More importantly, the 1920s established fashion as an ever-changing part of our cultural lexicon, something that influences people all over the world. A common expression is that fashion is cyclical, which explains why certain styles like leggings have made their way back from the 1980s in recent years. With that said, the fashion influence of the 1920s is everywhere, from a recent rise in bright shapes and patterns, and the resurgence of loose-fitting pants and blazers. Here are some fun ways to channel the 1920s in your everyday outfits, while avoiding looking like youââ¬â¢re wearing a costume. Tube dresses, swing dresses, and shift dresses are a great way to pull in a twenties influence, since theyââ¬â¢re not form fitting. These dresses come in a variety of styles and are easy to accessorize. The same with loose, straight-legged pants! These clean lines are all about the shape, and when paired with the right accessories, will create a dramatic look youââ¬â¢ll love. Accessories are a great way to add 1920s flair. Big earrings, long necklaces- especially pearls- and headscarves will add dimension to your look. Bright colors all the way! Bobbed hairstyles made a comeback recently, and weââ¬â¢re all about it. Bobbed hair looks great with earrings, hats and headbands, and will invoke the roaring twenties. For men, it will be a bit harder to add 1920s flair to an outfit, since menââ¬â¢s clothes tend to be a little more mainstream, and 20s inspired pieces will be difficult to find. My best suggestion for adding 1920s flair to a menââ¬â¢s look is to add a hat! Fedoras and flat caps are stylish in every decade, and men can definitely add suspenders or colorful bowties. Remember, 1920s fashion for both men and women was about creating a Look, and using clothes to express yourself. When using the 1920s as an inspiration, the most important thing to keep in mind is that 20s fashion is about self-expression and freedom. Itââ¬â¢s incredibly fun to turn your body into a work of art that speaks for itself. What's Next? Looking for more about the 1920s? Challenging the Obama Health Care Legislation Research Paper
Challenging the Obama Health Care Legislation - Research Paper Example Moreover, the petitioners claim that the new Act infringes the Tenth Amendment, emphasizing that a directive that coerces people to either get a health insurance or be penalized is undemocratic and unlawful (Bandow 2011). The Congress (2010) has once declared: ââ¬Å"By most measures, we have the best medical care system in the worldâ⬠(p. 32). Yet, there are still major problems and critical issue. A significant portion of the population does not have insurance and costs are continuously increasing. Failure to get a health insurance can prevent one from gaining access to preventative care. The uninsured are given treatment when s/he becomes sick, as recognized by the defendants since health care in the United States is commonly given because of incapacity to afford medical expenses or acquire a health insurance. Yet, the acquired costs to provide medical services to the uninsured are at times remain unpaid. The costs of unpaid health care services are transferred to economic actors in the form of increased premiums and costs, which, consequently, can contribute to the continuity of the cycle and further enlarge the uninsured population (Congress 2010). The Congress approved of the PPACA against these conditions. The petitioners challenge a number of the interconnected parts of the PPACA as well. Primarily, the new Act considerably changes and enlarges the Medicaid plan. Medicaid is a joint federal-state initiative established in 1965 that supports federal subsidy to states that decide to offer health care to vulnerable and poor populations (Congress 2010). PPACA will expand the numbers of new entrants to the Medicaid rosters by widening the initiative to encompass all people under 65 years of age with a specific income percentage of the federal poverty threshold (Health Care Lawsuits 2011). Furthermore, the new Act opens the opportunity for the formation of medical benefit transactions intended to permit start-up or small businesses and individuals to control their purchasing power to acquire viable prices (Bandow 2011).à Ã

Selecting a Company - Essay Example Business, first and foremost, is a commercial, industrial or mercantile activity by a person(s) or company. E-business refers to carrying out the above-mentioned activities via the internet; that is, online. E-commerce, however, is a narrower term-only referring to buying and selling goods and services online. This report will amicably evaluate gains made from e-business and any information and communication technologies. In the research, I will target the Google Corporation based in California-USA. The challenges facing the electronic business, in a nutshell, will be outlined. According to business world statistics, most of financial valuation of e-business is attributed to transactions that involve one business and another (Hinton and Barnes, 2005). Efficiency and effectiveness in terms of reaching out to consumers globally, market changes and information dissemination has been realized by the firm. Secondly, business to consumer growth was achieved in the corporation (Hinton& Barnes, 2005). According to the European Commission, 98% of the firms in the USA with e-business or e-commerce in infrastructures in place made up 14% of business turnover (Hinton& Barnes, 2005). Time taken to do business transactions was reduced in the Google Corporation. Receipts, according to the study, were generated accurately within in time. This was time saving compared to earlier times when done manually. Information on Google website, according to study spreads faster. This made it impossible for smaller companies using print-based catalogs to compete in disseminating information. This gave the firm a competitive advantage in business. The prices, for example, of consumer prices are among the items posted on the web. Despite all these benefits that accrue to the use, e-business is not without challenges. High-tech crimes such cyber-crime, threaten to jeopardize the business life of corporations in the US (Hinton& Barnes,

Annotated Bibliography - Essay Example ââ¬Å"Daddy,â⬠according to the argument presented by Strangeways, is a political poem which portrays the holocaust and oppression in deeply subjective, personalised and emotive terms. Narbeshuber contends that critics have misinterpreted both Plathââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Daddy and ââ¬Å"Lady Lazarusâ⬠as journeys into the poetââ¬â¢s own tortured and troubled psyche. This is not true. ââ¬Å"Daddy,â⬠as with the other mentioned poem, constitutes a declaration of rebellion against the standardized and acceptable images of the female and her relationship with the men in her life. Society and culture have imposed certain behaviors on the female, all of which insist that she be submissive, beautiful and soft spoken. In ââ¬Å"Daddyâ⬠Plath declares her rejection of these images and behaviors through outright rebellion. Therefore, this poem should not be read as one which reveals the poetââ¬â¢s own troubled psyche and weakness but as one which declares her strength and independence of societal images and stereotypes. Frye argues that Olsenââ¬â¢s short story is not only an exploration of the complexities of the mother-daughter relationship, as the majority of critics have maintained but, an exploration of the complexities of the motherââ¬â¢s own memories and psyche. In its exploration of the motherââ¬â¢s past, Frye establishes a correlation between the past and the present, illustrating the extent to which the latter is immediately influenced and determined by the former. Frye contends that the authenticity of this story and the extent to which the motherââ¬â¢s memories come across as true leads to the suspicion that this story is an examination of Olsenââ¬â¢s own self. Cox argues that the story exposes the emptiness which dominates the lives of teenagers and which causes them to lose their way, both in the literal and figurative senses of the word. As she contends, the title of the story is not just indicative of its primary theme but instructs readers to interpret the

A monopoly may want to reduce out put from Q1=17.5units to Q3=25units so that he can sell at a higher price P3=$35 (Asian Development Bank, 2002). However, economies of scale substitution may arise leading to a shift in marginal cost from MC1 to MC2 (Pirayoff, 2004).This shift may cause an increase in monopolist out put from Q1=17.5 Units to Q2=40 units. Leading to a decrease in price from a competitive price to a lower price P2=$30 despite the availability of a monopoly price =$35 (Brakman and Heijdra, 2004). Literary Theory - Essay Example To cater to a wider audience, Horace suggests including both these elements in a poem. Besides, the setting, time and location should have unity and coherence. Longinus feels that a prom should immediately elevate the reader to a sublime state as if he has experienced it himself, which element has not been taken into account by Horace. Horace merely suggests that poems should begin in the middle of a situation so that the reader immediately plunges into the poem. Longinus finds that conflicting feelings can be united while Horace feels decorum and coherent effect are essential for unity. Horace believes that learning can come only when there is in an innate quality to be a poet. Learning without innate talent would serve no purpose. Longinus on the other hand feels following too much of formal elements can create or ruin the poetic effect, which is the very purpose of creating poetry. Both agree that poets are innate and not made. As a critic or a writer, being able to express conflicting feelings would be more appealing. Most people do experience such conflicts in their life and it would be easy to transport people to such heights so as to merge the reader and the writer and the written passage or poem. Compare/contrast the rhetorical theories of Plato and Longinus. Try to identify areas of agreement and disagreement in their discussions of how poetry affects its audiences. Do you think one theory is superior, or do they both have value for your work as a critic and writer? Which theory do you think is more helpful in understanding the effect of literary texts in the 20th century? Managing Across Cultures - Essay Example Diversity in workforce members can lead to improved organizational performance and effectiveness (Pires, Stanton, and Ostenfeld 2006). Therefore, in order to function better with diverse colleagues, there is a crucial need for multicultural employees to be aware of the cultures that they are working with as well as have an appreciation for their values and beliefs, attitudes toward conflict, and personal experiences (Soderberg and Holden 2002). The increased reliance of international companies on a culturally diverse workforce should drive these organizations to improve their membersââ¬â¢ understanding of how certain processes such as training or communication can positively contribute to the success of a multicultural labor forceAlthough ethnically diverse teams play a critical role in the success of companies due to the flexibility, receptiveness, and resource utilization that are expected of them (Marquardt and Horvath 2001), the management of cultural differences and conflict has become a challenge for many international organization. Diversity in culture can bring about misunderstanding, adverse relationships, and weak performance, thus the need to effectively manage geographic distances, facilitate control and coordination matters, establish strong communication, and maintain team consistency. Because of this crucial need, numerous studies, even early research such as that of Hofstede and Trompenaars, have been carried out to explain cultural variations in the working environment and the successful management of these differences among employees. Theories on Cultural Dimensions Through my experience as international director, I have learned about the essential components behind a successful expatriate assignment. Theories of cultural dimensions from well-known researchers such as Hofstede (1980) have been of good use in explaining why people are culturally different from each other. National culture plays a crucial part in understanding a workforce tha t is ethnically diverse as explained through Hofstedeââ¬â¢s (1980) cultural dimensions including power distance, individualism, masculinity, uncertainty avoidance, and long term orientation. Power distance indicates the acceptance and expectation of the society, especially the less powerful individuals, that power can be unequally distributed, thus representing inequality. Anyone who has had experience in international studies can point out that all countries and societies have demonstrated inequality in wealth and power distribution, although some are more unjust than the others. Individualism refers to how people are integrated into groups; for instance, individualist societies tend to establish loose relationships among its members and each individual is expected to attend to himself and his family while collectivist ones are likely to stay committed to such relations and demonstrate unwavering loyalty to each other. Masculinity indicates how gender roles are distributed; menà ¢â¬â¢s values significantly differ from those of the women

Lehmanââ¬â¢s bankruptcy was considered as the largest one in the financial history of America. In 1850, Lehman took start as a modest retailer of textiles and clothing in Alabama; soon, it became a leading global financial services giant, investing mostly in investment banks, investment management and brokerage securities. However, the year of 2008 recorded the financial history with Lehman filing bankruptcy in September due to its exposure of the risks associated with the residential-mortgage loans; at the same time, Lehman owed $613 billion to its creditors. Lehman perpetrated its deception by using 102% in Statement of Financial Accounting Standards (SFAS) No. 140 (Pounder, 2011) in repos. A repo is associated with a transfer of financial assets when the borrower-transferor- wants to hold its ownership of the assets in the long term, but requires fulfilling the short term cash needs. Initially, the transferor commits that he would repurchase the financial assets in a given period of time after receiving a sum of cash- mostly smaller than the original value of the asset- for the financial assets. Upon maturity of the date, the transferor repays the amount originally received at the start of the transaction along with an agreed-upon sum of additional cash to the transferee. This transaction is accounted for as receiving a short term loan from the transferee and the financial asset is recorded as collateral in case the transferor is unable to repay the sum of amount. They promise their customers at providing a diverse selection of best quality products at a reasonable rate; along with maintaining the highest standard of freshness they also win the heart and mind of their customers by providing the best customer service. Why is it important to establish a clear mission statement? The establishment of a clear mission statement is important because it reflects the vision of the company as to how the company would like its clients to view it .For the company to be successful, it must have a clear mission statement that convinces the clients how it would be advantageous for them to shop from their grocery store and what facilities and services can they specially enjoy being a customer of their grocery store. Why is it important to communicate the companyââ¬â¢s mission statement? In order to let the public know what your companyââ¬â¢s vision is and what facilities they have for them and what services they cater, it is necessary to communicate the mission statement of the company. It helps in communicating expectations and also pinpoint what to stress on or to potential and also it gives a clear consensus to the company telling them where they lack and how more can they improve. Communicating the companyââ¬â¢s mission statement to the employees is more important than to its clients so that the employees are well aware of the services they have to give and the performance expected out of them. Why is the meaning of the companyââ¬â¢s mission statement important in making organizational changes? A mission statement focuses on a companyââ¬â¢s present state and therefore in order to bring any organizational change in the company, a change in the companyââ¬â¢s mission statement is also required because every aspect of your business is reflected in the mission statement. The attributes ofà the product, cost, service, quality and your co-relation with your clients, suppliers competitors and employees working in the company. (Abraham, 2007). Reviewing and revision of the mission statement is very important as it contemplates your aims and goals with the development of your company, the economic condition and the business. If the review results in a amendment of the statement, itââ¬â¢s a big deal because it probably means that your company is expanding or it needs an organizational change. References Abraham,J.. College Education is the Best Investment Essay example -- College Educ
The Value of a College Education Why is it important to achieve a college degree, certificate or diploma? Generally speaking, what is the importance of having a college education? This is a question that I have been debating and fighting with myself for the past five years. Is it because with a college education a person can get a better job, earn more money and ensure himself of a better life? Or is the whole concept of college a fraud and a scam to manipulate individuals in feeling inferior without it? In this paper, I am going to enlighten you of the pros and cons of having a valid college education and what it means to me. Senator John Kerry said in a 2004 presidential debate that ââ¬Å"Our college students represent only 20 percent of our population, but they are 100 percent of our future. They are our greatest investment, and we must help them understand the importance of investing in their selves.â⬠Today a college education is something to be treasured. In both earning potential and learning potential, a college education is worth every dime and penny. Just like any investment, a college education requires planning, saving, and perhaps some sacrifice. But it is an investment that will continue to pay you back for a lifetime. Individuals with a college education have better job opportunities, earn more money and develop skills and knowledge that can never be taken away. So in agreeing with Senator Kerry, making the investment of a college education is the greatest investment we will ever make. By attending college, students guarantees themselves a better job that the average Joe. Because the world is changing rapidly, and many jobs rely on new technology, more jobs require education beyond high school. With a college education, an individual will have more jobs from which to choose. In addition to obtaining a better job, people who go to college usually earn more money than those who do not. College furnishes you with proper credentials and documents to land high-level jobs. Figures from an A&E television program on ââ¬ËThe Working Classââ¬â¢ show that in 2004 the average earnings were $23,895 for a high school graduate and $41,478 for individuals with a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree. Getting a college education is simply a stepping stone in ensuring yourself with a good start in life. Some may agree that college students are open minded and knows exactly how to expre... ...tion was only for the rich and powerful. Now it is available to everyone, this will have many advantages for our country, our people, and even our world. I definitely believe that it is impossible to be overeducated. The more people are educated, the better the world will be, because people will be able to discuss and exchange ideas. Another pro is that people with degrees have many more opportunities. They can take a wider variety of jobs and do what they enjoy doing, instead of being forced to take a job they dislike. Finally, although there are undoubtedly some problems with college as a business, I feel strongly that each and every individual can excel and gain from having a college education. A college education is the most valuable tool we can use; itââ¬â¢s a foundation that will carry anyone through a successful life. Remember Senator Kerryââ¬â¢s words on making a college investment your most important investment. We may only be 20 percent of the population today, bu t what we do and the choices we make are going to determine the future. And to me, a college education is a sound investment. English Language: Key to Global Access
English Language: Key to Global Access By: Kyle A. Tumapang ââ¬Å"Language is the blood of the soul in which thoughts run and out of which they grow,â⬠as once said by Oliver Wendell Holmes. We cannot deny that we are all experiencing the effects of globalization. Globalization, as we all know, is the process of interaction, and integration among peoples, companies, and governments of different nations. Due to its continuous rise, the unity of people around the world is greatly needed. But how can unity be achieved if these people, with different cultures and languages, fail to communicate and understand each other? English language plays a great role in having global access. Not just for the reason that it is the universal language, but also to the fact that it contributes much to many aspects of life, like when you are travelling to other countries, you can really expect that these people will speak using their native language. Yet, you can assure that a few of these people kn ow how to speak using the English language.Their accent might be different and would vary every now and then, but their statements are completely understandable. Let me cite you an example, from an accent of ââ¬Å"Good day mate! â⬠to a simple ââ¬Å"Good dayâ⬠, both still have the same meaning. In countries like the Philippines, which it consists of 7,107 islands with people of various cultures, the languages they speak also differ. During these situations, English can be the bridge in their communication. In the field of education, English is the medium used in most of the basic subjects like Physics, Biology, Chemistry, and Math. Moreover, all correspondences between offices in different countries, and also between political leaders of various nations, are still in English. This linking factor significantly tells us the importance of the English language. English is also the mainstay of internet users. This is the language in which most of the information and websites a re available. Thus, the given situations emphasize the importance of the English language in the field of globalization. In addition to this, English language can also lead the progress of a nation.Citing the Philippines as an example, the country is recently proclaimed as the third largest English speaking nation in the world. With this information there is no surprise that Philippines was named as the best country in Business English, according to a recent study of the Global English Corporation. Philippines attained a score above 7. 0, ââ¬Å"a BEI level within range of a high proficiency that indicates an ability to take an active role in business discussions and perform relatively complex tasksâ⬠.The corporation also noted that a countryââ¬â¢s business English capability is an indicator of its economic growth and business success. If also other countries would imitate the Philippines, there is no doubt that one day these countries would contribute in the field of global ization. English is the queen of all languages. It has become the language of science, commerce, trade and international negotiations. We, would not be surprised that in the future, English can be the reason of the union of various nations, and also be the key to global access.

Feasibility Study on Whitening Soap Essay
I. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY With todayââ¬â¢s generation being very conscious of their skin, both men and women are faced with the problem of choosing different kinds of whitening products. As students that are looking for other ways to earn money, our group has come up with the idea of making a whitening soap that not only serves its main purpose of whitening but also give the users the satisfaction of using soaps that have great scents and are appealing to the consumers. Competitive Advantage It is a fact that the majority of the consumers of whitening products are from the teens and young adults that seek to nurture their skin and complexion. Our product clearly has an advantage compared to other whitening products because first it is very appealing to the consumers both men and women of all ages because of its unique color and the selection of different scents. Target Market Since the recent trend in beauty products in todayââ¬â¢s market is widely on whitening and anti-aging, and the fact that people are very conscious with their appearance, has constituted to the advocates of this study to choose the following target segment. Target Segments Middle-aged women that are beauty conscious: This group of people is usually those that have adequate income to purchase beauty products. They are also the ones that prioritize in preserving their appearance since they are the ones that are starting to age. Dark skinned people: These are the people that wish to have a lighter skin tone and want to achieve their goal instantly. II. BUSINESS PLAN Business Model A Marketing Strategy The biggest challenge that will be faced by selling our product is that we have many competitors in the beauty industry and many of them are already established companies and sellers. The primary business target markets are the Universities and Banks that constitute the major clients of the beauty industry. B Product Strategy Since the current market is already made up of many suppliers and sellers of beauty products most specifically in whitening, we have made our product more appealing in terms of its colors and shape that other products donââ¬â¢t have. Capital Requirement 5,000 Php DETAILED COST ALLOCATION FOR 3 YEARS Particulars Indirect Materials Box for repacking15,800 Delivery Fare10,500 Cash Flow With this capital requirement, we will be able to buy 45 pcs of soap for our group and we will be able to repack them and sell them for 120 per pc. If everything goes well, we will reinvest the money we have earned for more products in order for us to generate more income. Forecasted Net Income SalesP 263,250 Cost of sales 182,250 Other Expenses 26,300 Gross ProfitP 54,700 *This forecasted net income is income for three years. Recommendation and Findings The fact that our group chose to buy and sell instead of manufacturing our own product, we will be able to generate income with just a little amount of capital. We will also find it easier in the field of buying and selling because we will only order products and repack them only when clients will be ordering from us and thus we will not be holding products for long periods of times before selling them. Conclusion We therefore conclude that investing 5,000 in this industry will prove to be beneficial for us because it proves that we can generate profit from it.
Prison Overcrowding
This paper will discuss prison overcrowding and what type of numbers have come about over the years when it comes to inmates being imprisoned. It will discuss the cost of a prisoner annually as well as the decision to add verses build when it comes to new facilities. The overcrowding in one particular prison will be touched on as well as whose responsibility it is for upkeep. It will discuss how funding plays a role in overcrowding as well as the ââ¬Å"three strikesâ⬠rule in California and how big of an impact it has made on the prison system.Lastly, societyââ¬â¢s choice to vote will be touched on as how large of a determining factor it is in overcrowding prisons. State and Federal Prisons housed approximately 1. 3 million inmates in the year 2000, not to mention the jails had an estimate of 600,000 as well. Ten years previous the prisons housed 700,000 inmates and jails were at about 400,000. At that rate, the population of people being incarcerated almost doubled from 1. 1 million to 1. 9 million inmates. The last count in 2008 jumped again to an astonishing 2. million imprisoned within the country (Diiulio, Jr. , J. , 2010, March). Factors that contribute to prison and jail overcrowding is that so many people are incarcerated each year, funding, upkeep of a facility, the three strikes rule and tax payers are unwilling to pass levees. One of the largest reasons prisons are overcrowded today is that it is reported that one out of every 99. 1 adults are currently in prison or jail. This is the largest number in nationââ¬â¢s history and seven times the inmate rate from 1973.Amazingly ninety-five percent of prisoners are released back into communities to continue living their lives. They are not thrown to the wolves; they are released ââ¬Å"with a basic education, job training and preparation, improved pro-social pattern of thinking, adequate life/social skills, and a lowered risk for substance abuse, anger and self esteem issuesâ⬠(Boehm, D. P . , & Lampert, R. O. , 2008, October). If an inmate needs continued treatment once released, they are provided the assistance and resources to make the transition as successful as possible.Even when a prisoner was on a psychotic medication when released they are hooked up with a regional mental health and substance abuse center to make their reentry as flourishing (Boehm, D. P. , & Lampert, R. O. , 2008, October). At 157 percent capacity, San Quintin State Prison, a maximum security prison is no doubt overcrowded and it costs about $49,000 each year for an adult inmate to be housed in the San Quintin State Prison (Sterngold, J. , 2008, July/August). Taxpayers are unwilling to pass levees to build facilities to house prisoners which lead to an overcrowding prison. The criminal justice system needs to have stronger sentences for crimes to deter people from offending to begin with and not release inmates early due to overcrowding. Inmates are being released early because there are not e nough beds to hold all of the criminals. In the end it leads to a higher crime rate because the inmateââ¬â¢s count of being released early and they are not being reformed. A way to reduce funding problems is to have inmates take care of their own facilities like they would their homes.Cleaning supplies can be handed to the inmates and it can be their job to clean the showers. It should not be the responsibility of the prison staff to keep the facility clean, the inmates should be given duties and be held accountable or forced to live in the conditions they allow for themselves. Funds should not be taken from the taxpayers to pay someone to clean up after the inmates, the taxpayersââ¬â¢ funds could be used for security and building to prevent additional overcrowding. The problem with many jails and prisons today is the upkeep. Most facilities today do not have the funding to build a brand new facility but what needs to happen is to make the additions and upgrades more efficient. Replacing a furnace or air conditioning system for a place a huge as a prison could be extremely time consuming and expensive especially if the newer model is not the most efficient and then has to be replaced again and again prematurely. The best way to spend the taxpayersââ¬â¢ money is to buy the most energy efficient and best model and not replace it as often. As the age old saying, ââ¬Å"you get what you pay for. The same goes for other materials when doing an addition or fixing an existing structure, the administrators need to take the time to research and see what the best materials are for longevity and spend money wisely (Lucas, R. , 2009, November/December).As Robert Lucas (2009) said, ââ¬Å"Money spent well at the beginning of a project may save the facility from spending more in the future. â⬠Like California, many other states have the ââ¬Å"three strikesâ⬠rule and one of every nine of the inmates who are on their third strike get 25 to life sentence (H aerens, M. , 2010, May 15). This rule contributes to the vercrowding issue which an individual is taking up more space in jails and prisons. For example, if a person is charged three times with felony drug trafficking and is convicted that would be the third offence and would serve twenty-five year to life in jail. A violent offender, like a murderer, could that the place of that individual and rot in jail and make the community safer, it is the lesser of two evils. There are many factors that contribute to prison and jail overcrowding, funding, upkeep, three strikes rule, taxpayers not wanting to pass levees and the fact that so many people each year are incarcerated.Funding can be redirected if the upgrades were made more efficiently around the prisons. To help save money, inmates can do daily duties and have responsibilities around the prison and jail grounds. The three strikes rule needs to be revised to focus on violent crimes. Tax payers need to stop complaining about criminal s in the community unless they are willing to pass the levees to build jails and prisons to lessen the likelihood of overcrowding.References Boehm, D. Gerlach & Ely Model of ID Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Gerlach & Ely Model of ID - Essay Example The content of the course is often established through a standard curriculum thus needs no assessment. In addition, since the model was designed with teachers in mind, who are expected to know their students and the setting of learning process, no learner or context analyses are included (Orellena, Hudgins and Simonson, 2009). Instructional design, according to Gerlach and Ely, recognize teachers. Most teachers think about their courses first and foremost in terms of context, not the course objectives. The first step in Gerlach and Elyââ¬â¢s ID model is to describe an interactive process of examining content and generating objectives. In addition, the model also highlights the importance of assessing entry behaviors as its second step. The last step involves five interactive and simultaneous procedures: determine strategy, organize groups, allocate time, allocate space and finally, select resources. These steps are followed by a performance evaluation and a feedback analysis step. The following is a brief summary of the steps to be followed in the Gerlach and Ely ID model. The first step involves the specification of objectives. The teacher specifies behaviors in terms of what the learners should be able to do at specified points along the instructional continuum. The next steps to be followed include: specification of content, assessment of entry behaviors, determination of strategy and techniques and organization of groups (Bruce, Ledford and Sleeman, 2001). In the step of organizing the group, it is important to note that the objectives determine the group size. Several questions might be asked during this step, for instance, which objectives can be reached by the learners on their own? Which objectives can be achieved through interaction among learners? Which objectives can be achieved through formal presentation by the teacher and through interaction between the learner and the
